| Module I: Grammar |
For Module I - GRAMMAR the learning objectives are to develop an understanding of 74 grammar terms and to become
proficient in identifying the function of all words, phrases, and clauses in all sentences reviewed. Module I is
comprised of 20 lessons and a mastery test.
MAIN MENU
The Main Menu for Module I is comprised of 20 lessons with each lesson building upon the information presented in the previous
lesson(s). Because of this building-block structure, each lesson must be completed in sequence.
LESSON MENU
Each lesson menu contains the same five sections: INTRODUCTION, POINTS TO REMEMBER, TUTORIAL EXERCISE, LESSON REINFORCER, and PRACTICE TO MASTERY.
INTRODUCTION AND POINTS TO REMEMBER
Lesson content is presented in the first two sections. The INTRODUCTION section provides an overview of the subject matter and
introduces the new terms of the lesson, and the POINTS TO REMEMBER section presents detailed content with examples.
TUTORIAL EXERCISE
The TUTORIAL EXERCISE is the first exercise in the lesson. A user follows a series of instructions in a message box to identify the
function of specific words in a sentence. Audio messages with visual screens are included to aid the user. A user can listen to
the instructions, hear the sentence read, and receive pointers on how to respond correctly to the instruction.
LESSON REINFORCER
The LESSON REINFORCER is the second exercise in the lesson. This is a repetitious drill designed to ensure understanding of
new lesson concepts and concepts from previous lessons. To progress to the next exercise, a user must provide a
consecutive number of correct responses or continue to provide responses until a maximum number of responses are made.
PRACTICE TO MASTERY (PTM)
The PTM is the final exercise in each lesson of Module I. It is a graded exercise. For each sentence that appears from a
database of randomly selected sentences, the user follows the instruction in the message box and identifies by word-function code
the function of one, several, or all of the words in the sentence.
The user’s grade is the percent of sentences with all correct responses on the first attempt.
PTM Results
Upon completion of the exercise, a lesson grade, an analysis of the
user’s responses, and a recommendation of what the user should do next are displayed. Depending upon the grade, a user may progress
to the next lesson or repeat any exercise in previous lessons to master concepts that are not completely understood. Retests
to improve lesson grades are permissible until the start of the Module I Mastery Test.
MODULE I MASTERY TEST - PART A
Each module concludes with a MODULE MASTERY TEST. This final test is comprised of two parts. Part A is a test matching the correct definition
with each of the 74 terms of Module I. |
MODULE I MASTERY TEST - PART B
Part B is a sentence coding test in which all words must have a word-function code above each word
and a clause-identification code below each word. The type of sentence must also be identified.

GRADE REPORT
The Grade Report is accessible from the Main Menu and from each Lesson Menu. It displays each lesson grade, the
averaged lesson grade, the mastery test grade, and the final grade.
